Phlebotomy
Description: The study of drawing blood for laboratory testing in a hospital, laboratory, or blood bank setting. Phlebotomy is a one-semester classroom course as well as an on-the-job externship. Students will learn to administer skin punctures as well as vein punctures, as well as learn all aspects and responsibilities entailed in phlebotomy work. At the conclusion of the classroom training, students must pass the National Healthcare Association CPT1 exam prior to starting externship.

Time: One semester (5 months plus a 40-hour externship)
Salary Potential: $12-$27 per hour
Cost: $2,800 (subject to change) cost includes textbooks and supplies, drug screen, and background check. Additional fees required for the national exam as well as state certification fees (fees vary).
Pre-Requisites: 18 years of age, High school diploma, or equivalency, a passing score on a basic skills examination and ability to pass drug screening, and ability to pass a background check.
