Certified Medical Assistant (MA)

Lakeport:

Description: Upon completion of the Medical Assistant program students will be allowed to sit for the national certification through the National Center for Competency Testing for both front and back office. Students will also be eligible to take the exam through the California Board for Medical Assistants. Medical Assistants are tasked with working in doctors’ offices and clinics to assist the physician with weights and measures, injections, phlebotomy, and other in-office procedures.

Time: 10 months plus 180 hrs. externship

Salary potential: $15-$19 per hour

Cost: $4,300 cost includes textbooks, CPR Certification, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, fingerprinting, and drug screening. Application available online: www.lakecoe.org

Pre-Requisites: High school diploma or equivalency, the passage of drug screening, and fingerprinting. Students are encouraged to complete a community college course in Medical Terminology prior to starting the class. Students who do not take the course prior to the class will be enrolled in a Medical Terminology course concurrently.

Ukiah

Description: This course prepares students for all aspects of the work as a Medical Assistant in both the administrative and clinical setting. Students will learn all aspects from scheduling patients, computer skills, and greeting patients, to rooming patients, giving injections, and taking vital signs. The course prepares students to sit for the California Certifying Board Medical Assistant exam.

The next course starts August 25th, 2021 through May 25th, 2022

Applications will be available from April 26th, and due by June 4th, 2021

Pre-Requisites: 18 years of age, high school diploma, or equivalency, a passing score on a basic skills examination, ability to pass drug screening, and ability to pass a background check.
